Featured Artist: ARMAND VAN HELDEN

This week we focus on the career of a well-rounded American dance icon whose name alone will call attention to a dance track. With over half a dozen studio albums and a dozen Top 40 hits, Armand Van Helden is one of the most successful crossover DJ/producers on the international dance scene. Born to a Dutch-Indonesian father and a French-Lebanese mother, Armand Van Helden traveled the world as a child forming an international music foundation for what would become a major international music career.

After spending time in the Netherlands, Latvia, Turkey and Italy, Armand Van Helden purchased a drum machine at 13, and by the time he was 15 he started DJing and captivating audiences. When Armand was 18 he moved back to the United States and began moonlighting as a DJ in Boston, Massachusetts. After studying in college and working for a law firm, Armand Van Helden quit school and his work to focus on his music career under the management of Neil Petricone and X-Mix. He took up a DJ residency at the Loft, a top Boston nightclub at the time, and he released his first official single, a mix of Deep Creed's "Stay On My Mind" through Nervous Records soon after.

Armand Van Helden released "Move It To The Left" in 1992 via Strictly Rhythm Records and it became his first single to create a club buzz. It led to a string of dance singles for the label. It wasn't until 1994 when Armand Van Helden skyrocketed to new heights with the release of "Witch Doktor" which made the Top 5 on the Billboard Dance Music/Club Play chart. The single also opened the doors to remix for artists like New Order, Deep Forest, Jimmy Somerville, Deee-Lite and Faithless.

Now, 15 years after the original release of "Witch Doktor", clubs are buzzing again to this classic track thanks to the brilliant production efforts crafted by the internationally renowned DJ Eddie Thoneick. The single is beyond infectious and is another sensational new production from a dance scene favorite. We hope that you enjoy this fun, crisp and energetic revival of a dance anthem with Armand Van Helden's "Witch Doktor", the "Eddie Thoneick Remix"!
